Tuesday Tidings July 23, 2019 The Transition and Search Team has completed the Parish interviews. We are collating the data and using it to write the parish profile. FISH has now grown into an organization that provides help to those who cannot get it elsewhere for rent, food, gas, etc. The extraordinary volunteers also offer backpacks full of school supplies for students plus week-end packs for those students in food insecure situations. They also supply hygiene kits for all ages. Our community would be a much less hospitable place without FISH, and your donation goes a long way with their leadership. Questions? AMEN Transition & Search Team Update by Misty Martinell Thank you to all who attended the Parish History Taking on June 11th. It was such a fun event! Canon Lucinda Ashby led us in creating an interactive timeline of St. Luke's history. We each added the date we joined St. Luke's to the timeline, and Canon Lucinda added special events in the life of our Parish as these stories were told by members of our Parish. It was an eye-opening discussion. The timeline is hanging in the Parish Hall and you are all invited to add the date you joined if you haven't done so already. At the end of this exercise, we each shared five words that describe St. Luke's to us. Our Team has created a Wordle* with these descriptive words. The larger the word, the more times it was mentioned by members of the Parish. As you can see, it was quite an enlightening activity where we all learned a lot about each other and our Parish. The Transition & Search Team wants to thank each of you who have taken part in a Parish interview. We are wrapping these up currently, and will soon go through the interviews as a Team looking for trends. We will use the trend data we gather when we write the parish profile. This profile will be made public, and will provide potential priests with a lot of information about our Parish. We want you to know that although this is a long process, we are right on track. We don't foresee any difficulties or delays in the process. We appreciate your patience and support during this exciting and important time for St. Luke's. Summer Food Service Program: New Day Lutheran has a lunch program for children Monday through Friday at Kate Curley Park, 11:30-1pm. They serve an average of 85 children per day and definitely are filling a need in the community. They are looking for volunteers to assist preparing and serving the meals. Message from Soup Kitchen: SOUP KITCHEN IS IN DESPERATE NEED OF SOUP KITCHEN TEAMS (8-10 PEOPLE) FOR: 1ST MONDAYS, 3RD SUNDAYS, AND 4TH MONDAYS EVERY MONTH We are really struggling right now to find interested teams or individuals to help us fill open slots at the Soup Kitchen. The meal that many of these patrons receive at the Soup Kitchen is the only hot, prepared meal they have in a day. We can’t let them down!!! AMEN Dear St. Luke's, I can't believe that my six months as your Interim Priest has come to an end already. The Transition Search Team (TST) and I have been hard at work since January, and I am really pleased with our progress. I know that it feels much longer for all of you as Pastor Susan was away from the congregation for much longer, but our process couldn't start until after her official retirement in December. I will continue to work with the TST until the process is complete and you have a new priest. This means I will still be traveling to St. Luke's once or twice a month. The TST and I hope to schedule our meetings on Sundays so that I can serve as the supply priest occasionally. As July has gotten closer, here are some FAQ's that I have been getting: Who do I contact if I need pastoral care? When St. Luke's is in a time without a permanent priest or an interim priest our Senior Warden Nick Burrows is the emergency pastoral care contact. He has a plan in place for who to contact if a priest is needed. How many Sundays a month will we have Eucharist (or Morning Prayer)? There is no set answer for this one. The Worship Committee is responsible for scheduling priest or worship leaders for any given Sunday. What happens to our search process now that Canon Lucinda is Bishop-Elect of the Diocese of El Camino Real in California? Nothing will change with St. Luke's search process. Rev. Lauren will continue to serve as our transition consultant. The TST and I are continuing to work diligently to find the right priest for St. Luke's. The Vestry is committed to the daily work of St. Luke's. You are all in good hands. When I arrived they were at the beginning of the service, but that meant some people missed them. We moved them to just before the blessing, but that is breaking up the solemn time after the Eucharist. With all of this in mind, we have decided to move the announcements to just after the Peace and before the Celebrations and Thanksgivings. We believe this will be the best spot so that all can hear the announcements without disturbing the solemnity of our worship. Baptisms: St. Luke's will be celebrating baptisms on Sunday, June 16. When I arrived they were at the beginning of the service, but that meant some people missed them. We moved them to just before the blessing, but that is breaking up the solemn time after the Eucharist. With all of this in mind, we have decided to move the announcements to just after the Peace and before the Celebrations and Thanksgivings. We believe this will be the best spot so that all can hear the announcements without disturbing the solemnity of our worship. Rev. Tuesday Tidings February 26, 2019 Bishop’s Visit Bishop Thom will be here from Boise for the March 3 service. Please remember to bring any Bibles or Prayer Books you would like him to sign. There will also be a meal after the service: the main dish will be provided, please bring a side dish or salad to share. NO Sunday School March 3 Children's Education on March 3rd is cancelled for the Bishop's visit. We normally cancel Sunday School when the Bishop is here so the kids can witness and participate in baptisms, confirmations, etc. Soup Kitchen HELP NEEDED Sunday March 3rd is St. Luke's day to serve the meal at the Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen. If you can help from 11:30-1:30, please contact Misty Martinell at 208-569-7691 or [email protected]. Hayden LeCorbeiller’s Ordination: On March 3, 2019, The Rt. Rev. Bishop Brian Thom will ordain The Rev. Suzanne Hayden LeCorbeiller to the Sacred Order of Priests. The ceremony will be at 5:00pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Pocatello. Your presence and prayers are requested. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper The Annual Pancake Supper will be Tuesday, March 5th from 6-7:30 p.m.in the Parish Hall.
